Health & Safety Shield
Decmil Australia has introduced the SHIELD program to assist in keeping the importance of adhering to the highest level of health and safety practice at the 'top of mind' for every Decmil employee.
SHIELD is an acronym that captures the company's ethos of the importance of Safety and Health In Every Level at Decmil.
The SHIELD program is one of the innovative initiatives Decmil has developed to consistenly promote health and safety in pursuit of its 'zero harm' target.
WHAT IS SHIELD ABOUT?
A personal commitment from all individuals at all levels to take ownership for the safety, health and welfare of themselves and their work mates.
The SHIELD acronym acknowledges that safety and health is everyone’s responsibility. Individuals are responsible for their safety, the safety of their work mates and ultimately the standard of safety accepted within each Decmil work area and business unit.
THE OBJECTIVES OF SHIELD
The objective of the Decmil SHIELD Program is to drive the behaviours, attitudes, decisions and actions required of all individuals within the business to achieve a working environment that is free from injury or incident. The purpose of this program is to create a Safety Culture within the business that accepts nothing less than this objective.
THE SCOPE OF SHIELD
The Decmil SHIELD Program will:
- Be seamlessly integrated within every aspect of the business to provide safe construction.
- Be inclusive of all levels of the business, as well as our subcontractors, suppliers and consultants. This commitment will be specified within contractual arrangements.
- Recognise that individuals come to work at Decmil for various reasons which are personal to each of them. Some of these may be the benefits that their salary can provide in relation to supporting their family, travel plans or other personal needs and desires. When we maintain safety and health at work we ensure we all can continue to enjoy ‘what matters most.’
THE ELEMENTS OF SHIELD
The Decmil SHIELD Program comprises six key elements each requiring a number of strategies to be implemented and maintained by the business. This mix of elements and associated strategies will assist in the delivery of an incident and injury free working environment for the business.
