17/09/2009 - Decmil Australia Celebrates 30 Years of Operations

Leading provider of engineering construction, maintenance and industrial services, Decmil Australia, will celebrates its 30th year in business in September 2009.

To help commemorate the company’s 30th anniversary, Decmil Australia has organised various events for clients and staff in Perth, Karratha and around its project sites throughout the Pilbara.  Attending the events will be company founder and Chairman of Decmil Group Limited (DGL), Denis Criddle, former Decmil Managing Director and current DGL Chief Executive Officer Scott Criddle and Decmil Australia’s Managing Director Dickie Dique.

Decmil Australia was established in Karratha, Western Australia in 1979 when four young men Denis Criddle, Milan Babic, Sam Silla and Dino Rechichi - who were working in the Pilbara - spotted a range of opportunities when North West Shelf Venture partners decided to go ahead with building the onshore LNG plant.

Denis Criddle considers a $20 million Woodside contract for the construction of the administration complex at the North West Shelf gas plant as one of defining moments in Decmil’s history.

“This was our first major contract as well as our first win as an independent contractor, rather than a sub-contractor. At the time, Woodside only wanted large, experienced companies with previous records in safety and industrial relations bidding for this contract,” said Mr Criddle.

Decmil Australia has maintained this working relationship with Woodside and this continues today working on Woodside’s Pluto LNG Gas Project on 3 different contracts worth $230million.

Decmil’s policy has always been centred on its employees, and was one of the first sub-contracting companies to employ people on a full-time basis rather than use contractors. As well as ensuring a stable income for employees, this policy, allowed the company to develop a loyal, stable workforce which meant that it was able to more easily weather the ‘boom-bust’ cycle that typically characterises resources development.

“I am proud of Decmil Australia’s growth over the 30 years and want to acknowledge the people who have worked for us over the years and continue to make Decmil the successful company it has become. Without the efforts, support and commitment from each and every one of our employees, we would not have grown into one of Western Australia’s leading construction service companies,” he concluded.

Decmil Australia is a wholly-owned subsidiary of listed entity, Decmil Group Limited (ASX: DCG).
